About the Department

Lambeth Palace is the London home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, his family and two religious communities. It is the centre of his ministry, worship and hospitality. The staff members at Lambeth Palace work as a small and close-knit team and support each other during busy periods with flexibility and good humour. 

Lambeth Palace communications team supports the Archbishop in their public ministry, from media relations and speechwriting to digital communications and campaigns. The team work closely with communications teams at Church House, Bishopthorpe, the Anglican Communion Office, the Diocese of Canterbury and the dioceses of the Church of England. 

What you'll be doing

As a Communications Coordinator, you play a crucial role in providing organisational and administrative support to the Director of Communications and the Lambeth Palace Communications Team. The post holder will be a key member of the Communications Team, ensuring its efficient operation, outward focus, and accessibility to a diverse range of stakeholders. This role involves interaction with media outlets, including journalists, staff from the National Church Institutions (such as the Church of England Communications Team), communications staff across the Anglican Communion, clergy, and various external organizations.

You will also oversee project management tasks and maintain relationships with stakeholders across various seniority levels. As part of our team, you will utilize your strong working knowledge of Office 365, particularly Outlook, and your efficient, diplomatic, and strong interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently, flexibly, and calmly under pressure is essential. You should be confident in giving and receiving feedback and addressing any issues or concerns. A positive attitude towards teamwork and a proactive approach to problem-solving, along with a willingness to take on responsibility for tasks, will be key to your success in this role.


Core Responsibilities
  • Executive Administrative Support: Manage diary and inbox, draft correspondence, and assist with papers and presentations.
  • Team Support: Handle room bookings, minutes, agendas, and travel arrangements, and assist with various communications functions.
  • Brief Management: Ensure timely and high-standard delivery of briefs, and assist with research and writing.
  • Logistics and Hospitality: Plan and execute logistical and hospitality arrangements, and support press conferences and receptions.
  • Freelancer Management: Manage photographers and videographers, and handle invoices, filming dates, contracts, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Record Management: Ensure accurate production and storage of records, including file notes, transcripts, and photography.
  • Representation: Represent the Director and Communications Team at meetings.


Key role requirements
  • Hybrid working arrangements and must be able to work within the office - Lambeth Palace, at least 2 days a week.
  • A basic DBS check will be required as part of our pre-employment checks.
  • This role is a maternity cover on a fixed-term contract or secondment opportunity for up to one year.

What we offer
Your Salary 
  • A salary of £24,343.20 (£40,572 FTE) per annum, plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.
