Overview

The Church of England plays a vital role in the life of the nation and, through a network of parishes across the country, it provides Christian ministry and strengthens community life across numerous urban, suburban and rural settings. In addition, many of its members make a high-level contribution to a range of the most prominent public bodies.

The Church of England is a highly devolved institution. The National Church Institutions (NCIs) consists of seven distinct organisations which administer core functions that are most effectively handled at national level. The NCIs work to support the mission and ministries of the Church locally and throughout England.

Post Introduction

This is a unique opportunity to bring your operational skills and leadership passion into a historic institution which plays a national and local role in our spiritual and social life.

This role sits at the heart of the NCIs: the successful candidate will lead a broad range of shared services, enhancing customer service and improving effectiveness and efficiency through improvements to the operating model, and well-planned investment in systems and processes.

Role Responsibility

The Role

This role will need to navigate the complexity of working across the national Church with the governance bodies of the various national institutions and engaging with wider Church customers and stakeholders.

Supported by a large team and reporting into the Chief Executive of the Church Commissioners, this is a challenging role with significant scope in which to make a major impact.

The Ideal Candidate

The Requirements

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior leader, with a strong grasp of financial oversight as well as technology and system and process transformation, who also brings experience of managing multidisciplinary teams.

They will be able to work effectively within a complex organisational structure and proactively identify pathways to improvement.

A collaborative team-player, they will have an enthusiastic commitment to the mission and values of the Church, including a dedication to the NCI Belonging and Inclusion Agenda. A detailed understanding of executive leadership, best practice in governance, and good judgement are prerequisites.
